USING PROJECT-BASED LEARNING TO IMPROVE STUDENTS' SPEAKING ABILITIES IN SEVENTH GRADE OF MTS MAMBAUS SHOLIHIN

Speaking is one of the language abilities learned while studying English as a required
subject. Because it’s a productive skill when the teacher can witness students occupying the
target language actively for genuine communication. It is becomes the skill that must be
emphasized in teaching English as a foreign language. One of the techniques that can be used
to develop students’ speaking abilities is used Project-Based Learning. The formulation of the
problem in this study is. (1) Do the students who taught by using Project-Based Learning have
better score on students speaking ability especially in terms of pronunciation and vocabulary?
This researcher was classified as Pre-Experimental design study. It involved 40 student
One Group Pretest Postest. The data were obtained by using pretest and posttest. From the
result of the pretest researcher can conclude if the study of Speaking Abilities at MTs Mambaus
Sholihin is low, with a total Pretest 1379 and average of Pretest 34,47. Based on test that
researcher have given students, researcher found result from Posttest by total 3097 and average
74,82.
The result of the research shows that the difference in the speaking abilities between
the student taught using Project-Based Learning and those taught not using Project-Based
Learning is significant. By comparing the magnitude of the “t” obtained in observational
calculations (to = 23,25 ) and the size “t” listed in the value table t (tt.ts.5% = 2.02 and tt.ts.1% =
2.71 ). Then it can be known that the to is greater than the tt : 2,022,71.
Because the to is bigger than tt, then the Ho filed were rejected, and Ha is accepted. This
suggests that there was an effect on Using Project-Based Learning to Improve Students’
Speaking Abilities In Seventh Grade of MTs Mambaus Sholihin. From the explanation above,
the implementation of Project-Based Learning in teaching and learning process gives a positive
effect on the students. Because they can study easly and more fun without any burden it can be
done because by fun learning, knowlwdge and sharing can be maintained well
