Pesantren, as a moderate Islamic educational institution, must constantly
counter various radical, liberal, and takfiri ideologies that emerge massively to
attack the integrity of the nation. This can be done by internalizing moderate
Islamic values into the existing education system within the pesantren. Examples
include teaching values of tolerance, openness, consultation, cooperation, gentle
and humble attitudes, contentment, consistency, and compassion towards fellow
believers of different religions. The purpose of this research is to describe based
on empirical values obtained in the field about: (1) Internalizing the values of
Islamic moderation in Al Hikam Malang's student pesantren, (2) Evaluating the
internalization of Islamic moderation values in Al Hikam Malang's student
pesantren.
This research employs field research or field research type using
qualitative descriptive methods, which is a research procedure that produces
descriptive data in the form of written or oral words from observable individuals
and behaviors. Data collection techniques are carried out through: a) in-depth
interviews, b) observations, c) documentation. Meanwhile, data analysis
techniques are conducted through data presentation, data reduction, and data
verification or conclusion drawing. The validity of the data in this study is
checked using the triangulation method, including: a) source triangulation, b)
method triangulation, c) time triangulation.
The results of the study indicate that the internalization of Islamic
moderation values in Al Hikam's student pesantren is carried out implicitly by
instilling wasathiyyah values (balance, moderation, tolerance, harmony, and
consultation) using three stages: 1) the knowing stage, 2) the feeling stage, 3) the
doing stage. The knowing stage is found in the teaching field (dirosah), the second
stage, feeling, is in the nurturing field, and the third stage, doing, is in the
boarding field. This is in line with the researcher's observation that the attitudes of
the students in Pesantren Mahasiswa Al Hikam Malang reflect and practice the
values of Islamic moderation in their daily lives, such as respecting other
religions, respecting others' opinions, caring for the surrounding environment, and
helping one another.
