In the current era of globalization, foreign languages are very influential in the
world of education. Islamic boarding schools as one of the non-formal
education institutions are also expected to be able to produce quality young
people. Seeing also from the many foreign countries, especially western
countries, there is still a great shortage of preachers who are able to bring the
religion of Islam that is rahmatan lil alamin (moderate Islam). A santri who
masters a foreign language will also be able to preach and understand the
culture adopted by foreign nations, especially since Indonesia is a country that
has a large variety of potential trade with foreign countries. The problems in
this study are: (1) What is the shape of the foreign language environment at the
al-Miftah Modern Islamic Boarding School Bungah Gresik (2) How are foreign
language efforts in improving moderate Islamic education at the al- Miftah
Modern Islamic Boarding School Bungah Gresik
The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach, because this approach
is used to explore how the foreign language environment forms at the Al Miftah
Islamic boarding school and how its efforts to improve moderate Islamic
education in it. Therefore, this research process is expected to produce
descriptive data in the form of written or spoken from people or behavior that
can be observed to provide an explanation of how the foreign language
environment forms and how its efforts to improve moderate Islamic education
at the Al Miftah modern Islamic boarding school.
