The challenges faced by Madrasah Diniyah as non-formal educational
institutions are getting bigger day by day due to the impact of changing times and
advances inscience and technology. These challenges include; there is a shift in the
culture of the pesantren as well asthe outside culture that enters the pesantren. This
can cause various problems such as; juvenile delinquency in the pesantren
environment, intolerant attitudes towards others and the attitude of concern that is
starting to fade.Of course, this is a challenge for caregivers, administrators and
managers of Islamicboarding schools in providing education that is in accordance
with the demands ofthe times in order to produce quality human resources and have
noble character.
The purpose of this study was to find out: (1) how the contribution of
Madrasah Diniyah in shaping the character of students in Islamic boarding schools,
(2) what were the driving and inhibiting factors in forming the character of students
at the Mambaus Sholihin Islamic Boarding School in Suci Village, Manyar District,
Gresik Regency.
The research method used in this research is to use a qualitative approach with
descriptive qualitative research. The informants in this study were the head of the
madrasah diniyah,several asatidz councils, along with the staff and several students
at the Madrasah Diniyah Takmiliyah Awaliyah Mambaus Sholihin. Furthermore,
in collecting data the researchers used observation, interview and documentation
techniques which were then analyzed by presenting data, reducing data, and
drawing conclusions that would be the results of the research. Meanwhile, to test
the validity of the data using triangulation techniques.
The results of this study regarding the formation of the character of students
in Madrasah Diniyah Takmiliyah Awaliyah show that (1) The contribution of
Madrasah Diniyah Takmiliyah Awaliyah in shaping the character of students is
Madrasah Diniyah as a forum in shaping the character of students, besides that it is
also a means in shaping the character of students. (2) The driving and inhibiting
factors in the formation of the character of the santri come from the santri
themselves and the environment of the Islamic boarding school (friends, the
pesantren law, facilities and infrastructure, as well as the environment around the
pesantren).
